Disclaimer

There was a disclaimer I used to put up at the beginning of the Energetic Awareness course I developed for people new to the self-discovery path. It has a picture of a blissed out dude, sitting on top of a mountain, meditating and surrounded by love. It has the words “Disclaimer: this will not happen”.

You cannot expect to gain enlightenment from a weekend workshop or even an 8 week course. It takes consistent, continual effort and openness to all that is, plus a willingness to go into and embrace your own darkness. There are no shortcuts. And that’s a good thing! If you believe you’ve found a shortcut, that should probably be a red flag to you.

Sure, you will get to the top of that peak, but you will see once you get there, that it is not the top of the mountain. There will always be further to go. The Universe is infinite, remember?

This is nothing to be disheartened about. By all means, take in and enjoy all of the magnificence of the new view. Take a moment to be grateful for the rewards of your hard work (for the spiritual/personal development path is far from fluffy, as many people believe). Breathe it in. And do sit and meditate. Enjoy it. But don’t buy into the belief that you are supposed to stay there. That’s not the point of all this growth.

Look around you, find the travellers just a little below you and give them a hand up to where you are. From where you are, you can see further, so use that to help others. You can see their struggles for what they are, so encourage them.

Then, set off on the next leg of the journey, because you need to make room here for the others that will come. You can assist them better from higher up. You have what it takes to forge your own path, so do it for the ones who can’t yet and show them the way. Be an inspiration. That’s what we’re here for. To learn. And to help and support each other. Everything else is bullshit.

Namaste, fellow travellers.
Love & light & shit.
